The artsy crowd came out for Alison Mosshart’s art exhibit at the Maxfield Gallery in West Hollywood Tuesday night.
Mosshart, best known as the famous frontwoman for The Kills and The Dead Weather, is making a mark in the art world with her interesting and fun abstract art. In the feature photo, Mosshart stands before a painting created with tire tracks, and another work called “The Pest.”
Tire Tracks, ‘Pests’ and More
Faces and shapes made with tire tracks are her prominent subjects, often capturing life on the road. After all, many of the paintings are done while she’s touring with her partner in The Kills, Jamie Hince.
“Painting is what keeps me sane on the road,” Mosshart told CaliforniaRocker.com. “I use a remote control car for some, and those are the ones I do in the studio.”
Jamie Hince Plays DJ
Over in the corner, Hince was spinning the songs as DJ for his partner and pal in The Kills. He said the band just returned from their tour and their latest album, Ash and Ice was well received particularly in South America.
Hince is producing the band The Pins, who have a single out and Alison has a track on the new Foo Fighters Album, Concrete and Gold.
The Kills are no stranger to gallery events. Hince was celebrated with a show of his photography at Morrison Hotel Gallery and they support various causes and make charity-related appearances.
Friends from England and the U.S. were on hand to buy Mosshart’s work and share some conversation and catch up. The gallery show is at Maxfield Gallery in West Hollywood through Oct. 4.
