Feist Gives a Mother of an Impromptu Show at Lodge Room on Sunday Night

By DONNA BALANCIA

There’s good news beyond Feist’s impromptu Mother’s Day Show at the Lodge Room Sunday night: She may be performing in Los Angeles more frequently.

Friends say the Canadian-born indie singer-songwriter bought a house in LA and found she has a soft spot for Highland Park. The sudden Sunday night show that sold out quickly came as a result of Feist and her band having lunch one day near The Lodge Room. That’s when they noticed the unique venue and booked themselves in for the Mother’s Day date.

The first 50 people to purchase tickets for Sunday’s show got an opportunity to bring their mom for free and a few people took advantage of that offer. Feist admitted though, that despite the Mother’s Day show and the buy-one-get-mom in free deal, she forgot to call her own mom on the special day. So while standing on stage during the show, she dialed her mother and got the audience to sing a round of “For She’s a Jolly Good Fella.”

Feist’s setlist is an adventurous romance with the audience as fans engaged on an emotional level and sang along with most songs. There is more to this performer than meets the ear. The songs range from funky blues to stomping ballads with horns and violin, all with exacting and well-blended sound.

The range of Feist songs reflect the diversity of her career. She’s teamed with everyone from Peaches and Ben Gibbard to Mastadon and played in Broken Social Scene.
