Boosted by the boundless pep of petite powerhouse Lauren Mayberry, CHVRCHES brought its high energy show to The Greek Theatre for the LA leg of the Love Is Dead Tour.
CHVRCHES is so forward thinking with the music, the band will continue to gain fans for a long time to come. The band’s clever use of synthy beats and sounds combined with a great performance by frontperson Lauren Mayberry worked magic on the crowd at The Greek Theatre.
The band consists of Mayberry, a tiny dynamo who cracks jokes in between songs, Iain Cook and Martin Doherty. Mayberry moves around the stage like a middle school kid playing in a field on a day off from school. Resplendent in cranberry-colored eye masque a T-shirt that Says Girls Can Do Anything, the petite singer brings out the best in the almost-sold-out crowd at The Greek.
Mayberry reminded the adoring audience that her record was made in LA, her black boots seemingly too big for her tiny frame.
She gets great backup from bandmembers Cook and Doherty and the throngs of fans show their clear adoration for the Scots.
There’s been a love affair in the U.S. for Scottish bands, everyone ranging from Teenage Fanclub and Simple Minds as well as Belle and Sebastian. CHVRCHES carries on the national tradition of influential and big-sounding music. Check out Love Is Dead here.
Special props need to be given to openers Lo Moon, the innovative and excellent band comprised of Matt Lowell, Crisanta Baker and Samuel Stewart. Lo Moon released its first album last February and is worth checking out.
