Black singer-songwriter Danielia Cotton looks towards a hopeful future on her upcoming album Good Day due out in March.
While most might start to slow down as they become more mature, Danielia shatters the concept that rock stars need to be young. In her 50s, Cotton is set to release her album Good Day, and it surrounds the listener with exquisite collaborative sound.
On her upcoming single, “A Different War,” Danielia channels the classic, 1960s inspired vintage soul sound of artists like Pastor T.L Barrett, whereas on her single “Super Cool,” she echoes the spirit of old-school Memphis style rhythm and blues with a love song that would stack up against the likes of Al Green around 1972.
Confronting the racial, political and social turmoils of the past, Cotton’s music is a collection of genres, sounds and ideas that inspires listeners embrace survival.
Cotton recently released “If You Don’t Want Me,” a smoldering, soul-stirring track that blends soul with the heart-wrenching grit of the blues. Bravely facing heartache and longing and drawing from within, Cotton’s vocals take center stage. Listen to “If You Don’t Want Me” here.
