Alejandro Aranda worked hard to get to Monday night’s duet with Ben Harper on American Idol.
Voting starts next week and the artist known as @Scarypoolparty may cause a texting frenzy. An early favorite of judges and fans alike for his incomparable style, Aranda is sure to get plenty of votes.
The humble Pomona musician is consistent in his approach to music, playing local gigs for only a short time. He’s so gifted musically, he’s even been called a “savant” by some and he has captured the adoration of the world, including that of duet partner, Harper.
The two played “There Will be a Light” by Harper.

Harper said that he “got up off the couch” to perform with Aranda. A neighboring SoCal local, Harper was born into a musical family. He said he remembers Aranda coming into his family’s music store in Claremont, Calif. and trying out the guitars.
