The Kills Show No Signs of Slowing Down With Southern California Shows

By DONNA BALANCIA

The Kills brought their wild style and high energy shows to Los Angeles this past week with two sold out shows at The Regent and The Glass House in Pomona.

It’s been a long and successful partnership of Alison Mosshart and Jamie Hince who have five albums and 18 years of music together.

With Saul Williams opening at The Regent and Plague Vendor supporting at the Glass House, the longtime beloved duo were in stellar company.

The Kills covered “List of Demands,” which they performed with writer Williams during their Regent set. It’s a song The Kills make their own, but which conveys all the frustrations and passion of the Williams original. In addition to Williams, we have seen Mosshart team with everyone from Dave Grohl to James Williamson — Is there anyone The Kills can’t work with?

The latest album from Jamie and Alison is Ash & Ice, released almost two years ago, and the duo played several songs from the collection.  At The Regent it was a hot show on more than one level as The Kills brought the high temperatures and the crowd felt the heat.

The Kills might be true soul mates as Jamie and Alison always look like they’re sharing a great, funny secret with the room. They hug and kiss and perform some of the most compelling work in the world of music today.  While it’s hard to believe, it’s been almost 20 years of togetherness for the famous duo.

After playing some of the classics like “Hard Habit,” “Black Balloon,” and “Echo Home,” there was a great encore performance of “That Love,” which Alison played on acoustic guitar.

Opener Williams played before projected images of every political topic imaginable. He has a fan base in Southern California as several of the fans came a distance just to see the UK musician do his electronic-based spoken word performance.
