Matt Sweeney and Bonnie “Prince” Billy have released a folkloric new single with a video directed by Kevin “Spanky” Long and Atiba Jefferson called “Resist the Urge.”
The new single is from the duo’s upcoming album, Superwolves, out on April 30 digitally and on June 18 in physical formats on Drag City. Matt Sweeney and Bonnie “Prince” Billy (AKA Will Oldham) will tour California in June and Tickets are on sale now.
Skateboarder Kevin “Spanky” Long and photographer-skateboarder Atiba Jefferson teamed up to create the video and depicts Spanky skating through a virtual landscape.
“Resist the Urge” was recorded at the Butcher Shoppe in Nashville by Sean Sullivan and David “Fergie” Ferguson.
“We got David Ferguson out from behind the board to play double-bass on this one,” Bonnie “Prince” Billy said. “It needed the lift that only a Ferg could deliver.”
Also collaborating are visual artists Harmony Korine, who created the Superwolves cover image. Inside the album artwork package, Scottish painter Peter Doig contributes a Superwolves-inspired painting.
