As the new the collection Chris Cornell nears its Nov. 16 release date, fans can anticipate some rare recordings to emerge.

One such recording just released is Cornell’s cover of Prince’s “Nothing Compares 2 U.”  Be prepared to get the hankies ready because this one’s a true tear-jerker.

Chris Cornell sings ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ here:

Cornell, who passed away in May of 2017, was a lot of things to a lot of people and above all, was a great family man. In the world of rock, he was known as the beloved and dynamic frontman for Soundgarden and Audioslave.

Friends and music colleagues honored him at the time of his death. A few weeks ago, a statue in his memory was unveiled at the Museum of Pop Culture in Seattle.

Cornell, who is known to have one of the most emotion-evoking voices in rock, puts on a terrific performance with his version of “Nothing Compares 2 U,” recorded at SiriusXM in 2015. Sinéad O’Connor made the song famous in 1990.

UMe will release a 17-song album and a 64-song box set of his recordings on Nov. 16. The 64-song box set includes 11 unreleased tracks. There will also be a “super deluxe” box with additional videos, a hardcover book, lithographs, a turntable mat and a poster.

The collection was put together by Vicky Cornell, Chris’ wife.

Backed by guitarist Keaton Simons and cellist Bryan Gibson, Cornell makes the song his own without overstepping the boundaries of respect for Prince.
