Thomas Dolby will give a live headline performance during the FUTVRE LANDS virtual reality festival on Saturday.
To attend the fest, visitors can use their computers, their Google Daydream-enabled Android or put on the VR headset and head to the website of presenter, High Fidelity.
FUTVRE LANDS presents the festival completely in virtual reality. In addition to music performances, FUTVRE LANDS Virtual Reality Fest will also present game shows and a virtual bazaar.
High Fidelity‘s festival takes place from noon to 4 p.m. PDT virtually in the FUTVRE LANDS domain and in-person at High Fidelity’s VR Studio in San Francisco. Tickets are available here.
The positives on a virtual fest far outweigh the negatives. Yes, the batteries and memory should be ample to handle the fest. But attendees can be a part of the festival without traditional festival headaches like long lines, heat or rain.
Free and open to the public, the fest offers the VR-curious an opportunity to venture into social virtual experiences. Anyone can access FUTVRE LANDS via a VR headset, desktop or Google Daydream-enabled Android device.

High Fidelity presents FUTVRE LANDS as part of Virtual Reality Day, a 24-hour series of AR/VR events held in more than 50 cities and countries around the world. The entire celebration will move to FUTVRE LANDS for four hours of VR Day.
The tech behind the FUTVRE LANDS festival is High Fidelity’s open-source software for creating real-time social VR experiences. The company is a big player in the VR niche and is working to bring on users and afficionadoes. High Fidelity’s platform can now support up to 500 people in a single virtual space, the company says.
‘Goal is to Create and Share VR’
“Our goal is to make High Fidelity an Internet-scale technology that allows anyone to create and share their VR experience in real-time,” said Philip Rosedale, CEO and founder of High Fidelity. Rosedale is the founder of Second Life.
“For VR newcomers, it’s a fun way to dive into virtual reality to see what’s possible beyond video gaming,” Rosedale said. “For our community of VR creators, it’s a chance to celebrate VR’s rapid progress toward more mainstream users.”
VR offers a new outlet for creativity. Musicians have already started using VR platforms to reach audiences limited by geography or expenses. On Dec. 2, 2018, music producers Ryan Hemsworth and Giraffage will hold a meet-and-greet inside High Fidelity to engage with fans after their fall tour.
