Keith Richards as a comic book hero?
Richards, Alice Cooper, Ozzy Osbourne and many other rockers will have their own real-life adventures in a new line of comic books by TidalWave Comics.
Companies Teaming on Series
TidalWave Comics of Portland has teamed with Ingram Content Group of La Vergne, Tenn., to produce the rocker books with vibrant colors and cardstock covers printed on demand. Others getting the comic book treatment include Freddie Mercury, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd.
TidalWave is Known for More than Rockers
TidalWave is known for its stories about the lives of politicians, actors, and celebrities. For the musician series, TidalWave writer Michael Frizell has researched the lives of the musicians for the publisher.
“I like writing for TidalWave because they allow me wide latitude with artistic expression,” Frizell said. “At their core, the comic books tell true stories. True stories are always more interesting than fiction.”
The biography comic enables TidalWave’s writers to cover the history of those in the news and also explore the moments that helped make them who they became.
Kurt Cobain, Prince and David Bowie Comics
Other musicians also getting immortalized in comic form are Metallica, Kurt Cobain, Prince, David Bowie, Jerry Garcia, Bon Jovi and more.
Frizell said the success of Hollywood action pictures that feature superheros has helped the comic book industry come back to life. And women have a share as well. In 2008, TidalWave wrote about Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton, getting into the sequential art and storytelling market.
Educational Element to the Comic Book
There is an educational element to the product as well, helping to make learning more colorful and fun.
“As a reluctant reader, I found the comic book form easy to access, so I always believed comics could both entertain and teach,” publisher Darren Davis said.
The books are available in print and are available on the e-readers from iTunes, Kindle, Nook, ComiXology, DriveThru Comics, Google Play, Overdrive, IVerse, Biblioboard, Madefire, Axis360, Blio, Entitle, EPIC!, Trajectory, SpinWhiz, Smash Words, Kobo and wherever eBooks are sold.
Comic book and book stores can order these titles in print at INGRAM.
