The Super Bowl halftime show featuring Shakira and Jennifer Lopez was an achievement that has earned accolades and comments from around the world.
But back in 2006 a very different version of Shakira’s hit “Hips Don’t Lie” got the attention of YouTube watchers in a famously viral video.
While Super Bowl fans fawned over Shakira and J Lo, two of the most gorgeous women in the world, some not-so-good-looking guys paid homage to their favorite Latina performer in a video that recently resurfaced.
As the story goes, the students who made this creation, got an A+ in one of their classes for the home-made version of “Hips Don’t Lie” by Shakira feat. Wyclef Jean. No, it’s not exactly politically correct, but it took some bravery to release this low-budget creation (Note the electrical tape holding up the skirt on “Shakira”).
In the video, Shakira is played by an actor known only as Ryan, and the gangsters are played by Sal and Matt. The video was directed, filmed and edited by Tom.
The long-remembered video was one of the oddest DIY performances to surface in the “early days” of YouTube, which started in 2005. It was among the first hot viral videos on the service and brings back a lot of memories to those commenting on YouTube.
