Get ready, soulful blues lovers: Texas Headhunters the trio of fan-favorite guitarslingers – Ian Moore, Johnny Moeller and Jesse Dayton – are coming to a stage near you and they’re totin’ their new self-titled album.
The swaggering soul of this knockout “superblues” group will set you back on your heels. What do they share? Deep roots, friendships, and a mutual love for legendary Texas blues, and this trio may rewrite the book of American roots music.

Dayton’s “Maggie Went Back to Mineola” turns up the heat with a dirt-and-neon redemption tale. “A girl from Mineola goes to Dallas and becomes a stripper,” Dayton said. “She gets into all this stuff, then comes home to work at the Dollar General and try to go to church. That’s Ian on lead.”
Each of the group members has earned his chops: Moore brings the psychedelic fire, Moeller delivers a deep-pocket sting, and Dayton’s got a knack for outlaw storytelling that’s driven The Fabulous Thunderbirds to Austin’s Antone’s, to Grammy-nominated recordings and favorite solo records. And while individually, they’ve blazed trails, together, they’re setting the whole dang map on fire.

Moore’s “Kathleen” delivers a vocal that cuts through a wall of snarling guitar. “Kathleen sounds like me,” he said, “but we’re all in there. We’re weaving.”
With roots tracing back to Antone’s and the late Clifford Antone’s last wave of discoveries, the Texas Headhunters are here to remind the world what Texas blues was, is, and still can be.
The Texas Headhunters kick off their tour Thursday, Aug. 28 in Milwaukee, head to Berwyn, Il. the next night, move on to St. Louis and Kansas City then it’s on to Cincinnati, Cleveland, Buffalo, N.Y., and Warrendale, PA. Check out all the dates here.
