The Loyal Seas to Drop ‘Strange Mornings In The Garden,’ Hit the Road in May

The Loyal Seas – the creative partnership of Tanya Donelly (Belly, Throwing Muses, The Breeders) and Brian Sullivan (Dylan in the Movies) – will release Strange Mornings In The Garden, available May 20 through American Laundromat Records.
The duo will celebrate with two performance at The Burren in Somerville, MA on Saturday, June 25. (TICKETS)
Today, the duo shares the latest single, “Swimmers in the Gold” featuring Jon Evan (Tori Amos) and Sarah Parkington (The Parkington Sisters) on upright bass and violin/viola, respectively. The song exemplifies the complimentary creative partnership between Tanya and Brian.
“I handed this song over to Tanya with the lyrics to both verse and chorus but I wasn’t feeling the verses,” Brian said. “I knew Tanya could take this song to the right place. And of course – she did! Her lyrics and vocals are just so, so beautiful.”
“This song is one of those rare-ish ones when the words come together almost whole-cloth at once, easily inspired by Brian’s beautiful music and his lyrics in the chorus. Sarah Parkington’s pretty pizzicato on this one is perfect,” Tanya said.
Last month, they released “(So Far From) Silverlake” with official video directed by Orrin Anderson (Kristin Hersh, Throwing Muses, 50 Foot Wave and +/-). The group’s full-length debut album Strange Mornings in The Garden will be released on 5/20/22 via American Laundromat Recordings with limited edition cassette and colored vinyl for pre-order at BandCamp or American Laundromat Records.
Tanya Donelly and Brian Sullivan met in the mid ‘90s at Fort Apache studios, and struck up a friendship that has morphed into collaboration over the years including a cover of “The Lovecats” for Just Like Heaven: A Tribute to The Cure (2009) and “Shoplifters of the World Unite” from Please, Please, Please: A Tribute to the Smiths (2011), both on American Laundromat Records, as well as to each other’s respective projects.

In December 2020, they released a debut single as The Loyal Seas, “Strange Mornings in the Garden” b/w “Last of the Great Machines,” that sold out immediately. Each side was an individualistic statement showcasing a particular side of the pair’s personality, one a luxuriant, sweeping ballad and the other tightly-knit, kinetic alt-pop.
