Kanye West led a spirited Easter Sunday Service at Coachella with guest appearances by DMX and Chance The Rapper. But some fans said the delayed start time outside in the heat, West’s expensive “church clothes” and odd “Teletubbies”-like environment was a turn-off.

West has been holding his Sunday Services in various locations since January. But Easter Sunday at Coachella had some interesting aspects including a surreal surrounding and thousands of onlookers.

Other than the drab cult-like pale purple church garb worn by the flock (with similar shirts for sale at $165-$250) the Kanye service was inspiring and uplifting, onlookers said. Chance The Rapper and DMX participated.

“Kanye made us go to church at Coachella,” said Angel Chavez who was on the scene. “This was Coachella 20th anniversary so it was cool they involved Kanye.”

The Sunday Service began with the group marching up to the hill wearing the pale purple outfits and developed into a percussion-filled Easter service. Several social media watchers noted the appearance of the group on the green rolling hills bore a resemblance to odd kids’ TV show “Teletubbies.”

Chavez said while overall the production was incredible, there was a long delay before West went on. People didn’t know where to go because the doors were supposed to open at 6 a.m., which they did not, and a lot of the day parking lots were closed. By the time the show started it was 80 degrees.

Others on social media said it may have been inappropriate for West to be selling his clothing line alongside the religious service. The “church clothing” ranged from $50 socks that read “Jesus Walks” and “Church Socks” to a $70 T-shirt that reads “Trust God” and sweats for $165 to $225 that read “Holy Spirit.”

Kanye debuted a new song, ‘Water.”
